Kevin & Kirk’s Hockey Celebration

Back in 1970, our family was shopping at Montgomery Ward when Kevin and Kirk shyly asked mom if we could each buy a pair of Bauer hockey skates. They were just $7 a pair. After mom discussed it with our father they said yes! That simple moment sparked a lifelong love of hockey.

At the time, our dad was a teacher at Palmer High School and one of his extra duties was helping out at the high school hockey games. He would take us along, and from the first puck drop, we were hooked.

We got our start playing hockey at the outdoor rink at the Myron Stratton Home and grew up skating through the Colorado Springs YAL program at the old Broadmoor World Arena. Both of us went on to play for Palmer High School with Coach Pro (Mike Provenzano). Over the years, both of us have coached hockey, Kevin coached at Mitchell High and served as the head coach for Palmer Hockey for several seasons.

Since then, we’ve spent decades playing in beer leagues throughout Colorado Springs, Denver, and Pueblo. In the ’80s, Kevin ran a local hockey league for a time, and Kirk has organized the Summer Blast Hockey Tournament a few times, with hopes of bringing it back again soon.

Today, we’re still lacing up and hitting the ice. Both of us play in the NORAD Hockey League, this year with Triple J, the NORAD Cup Champions this year and in the Colorado Springs Adult Hockey League with the Angry Dolphins, where Kirk currently serves as team captain. We’ve also been fortunate enough to play in the Colorado Springs Legends League, joining a great group of longtime players who share our passion for the game.

We have met so many amazing players and to celebrate over 50 years of playing the game we love, Kevin and Kirk are throwing a party and we’d love for you to be part of it and bring your spouse/partner!
